Welcome: Mapping the End-to-End Data & AI Stack
Why this blog exists, what it will cover, and how the series are organized — from data architecture to AI agents.
The data and AI landscape moves fast. New table formats, catalogs, orchestration tools, vector databases and agent frameworks appear every month — and most content about them is either marketing, a shallow listicle, or a tutorial for one tool that skips the why.
This blog is my attempt at the opposite: long-form, research-backed deep dives that explain how the whole stack fits together, with honest trade-offs and practical decision frameworks.
How the content is organized
Everything follows the flow of data, left to right:
- Data Architecture — the blueprint: warehouses, lakes, lakehouses, table formats, catalogs, modeling, streaming, mesh and fabric.
- Data Engineering — ingestion, change data capture, streaming, orchestration and transformation.
- Governance, Quality & Observability — catalogs, lineage, contracts, access control and monitoring.
- Analytics & Semantic Layers — turning data into trusted metrics and decisions.
- Machine Learning Systems — features, training pipelines, MLOps and serving.
- Generative AI & Agents — RAG, vector search, evaluation, LLMOps and agentic systems built on a solid data foundation.
Each track is published as a series you can read in order, starting with Data Architecture. You can follow progress on the series page.
Many articles also have a companion video on my YouTube channel, Data & AI with Varath.
Where to start
Start with the pillar article: Data Architecture: The Complete Guide for the AI Era. It’s the map for everything that follows.
Stay in the loop
New articles land roughly twice a month. Subscribe via RSS, and feel free to reach out with questions, corrections or topics you’d like covered.
